Time at Hungerburg, Bitburg, Germany 1980 - 1990 |

From 1980 until 1987 the Cottongim family was stationed in West Germany - specifically at the US Air Force Bases of Bitburg and Ramstein. While the family was stationed at these two bases, Anissa was introduced to both "English" style riding (as opposed to the Western that she had been riding in Texas) and also to the Trakehner breed. She would ride her bike daily to the barn, Hungerburg, where she helped out around the barn in exchange for the opportunity to ride as many horses as they would allow her to. While working at this barn, Anissa earned her Reiterpass, and was working on her Bronze certification with the FN when the family was sent back to the United States. Anissa still stays in touch with the Portz family who have owned Hungerburg, and bred Trakehner horses for the past few generations. Below you can find photos of Anissa riding, as well as snapshots of some of the beloved Trakehners from this farm, and other candid photos of around the farm.
